Hannah Acar is an accomplished and highly experienced singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Newcastle upon Tyne. In 2009, she graduated from the University of Liverpool with First Class Honours in Music and Popular Music and in 2010 completed a Masters degree from the University of York in Community Music.
Hannah has toured the UK and Europe extensively with her own band and as a supporting vocalist and violinist with rock legends Status Quo as well as folk star Kathryn Tickell. With these artists, Hannah has recorded on several gold award-winning albums and performed in theatres and stadiums across Europe, in addition to performing live on television and radio. Her diverse performing career has taken her from Glastonbury to the Royal Albert Hall, to songwriting with veteran rock stars. Other career highlights include supporting Sir Tom Jones in 2015 and and taking the stage in front of 62,000 music fans at Radio Live 2 in Hyde Park in 2016.
Hannah is in great demand as a performer and for her experience and understanding as a teacher. She is one in a minority of teachers to offer examinations in both classical (ABRSM) and pop/rock singing (Trinity College) and is pleased to have a 100% exam pass rate. Hannah is dedicated to music education; reaching out and giving back to the wider community whilst following her own musical ambitions.
I have been a professional singer, songwriter and musician for the last ten years, working in a wide range of musical genres both live and in the studio. My knowledge of the music industry, versatility and, above all else, passion for music, feeds into my work as a teacher. I’m open and encouraging, and make lessons as fun, inspirational and interactive as possible. All ages and abilities are welcome and no prior experience is necessary. I can teach on a one-to-one basis or in small groups if preferred, and am able to travel if necessary (although I teach mostly from home).
Singing lessons are tailored to each students' particular needs and interests, and are designed to help you train, strengthen and control your voice. You’ll study varied vocal warm ups and technique exercises to improve your vocal range and stamina, as well as learning songs from a varied repertoire, all the way from pop/rock to musical theatre and jazz and on to soul and country.

As an experienced and passionate violin teacher, I believe in an approach that gives students positive, constructive ways to learn. I design my lessons according to my students’ needs and experience, with an emphasis on technique, fun and confidence-boosting activities. ABRSM grades 1-8 may be taken, although not all students choose to do exams. Learn to:
Take graded exams
Play different styles of music (from Baroque to folk and jazz)
Use various bowing and fingering techniques
Songwriting lessons are designed to be explorative as well as inspirational. in addition to practical writing exercises, you will examine the work of various famous songwriters in order to develop your ability to analyse form, genre, style and content and to form an understanding of how lyrics, melody, harmony and rhythm work together to create memorable songs. As well as writing your own songs, you will:
Explore song themes and learn how to draw inspiration from your own situations and surroundings
Develop an awareness of song structure, lyrical content and musical composition
Learn how lyrics and melody work together
Learn how to write well crafted and relatable lyrics
Develop an understanding of genre and how to be commercial
Longer lesson slots are also available for those wanting tuition on more than one instrument, or extra time for theory, songwriting etc
If you do need to cancel a lesson, please be aware that I require 48 hours notice of any cancellation or change to your lesson. Lessons cancelled at short notice (less than 48 hour period) will be charged at the normal rate
